Nursery Helpers Needed
It has been wonderful to have young children in some of our services recently. One way that we can help some of these families who are new to Tibitha is to offer an alternative place for their young children to go during worship, if the need arises. If you see this as a ministry opportunity that allows these parents to focus on the Word, then sign up to provide child care once-a-month either during worship or Sunday School. Thanks for considering this a ministry opportunity.

Walking Thru The Word on Wednesdays

On Wednesday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m. we will begin looking at one book of the New Testament each week. We made it through the Old Testament with everyone passing the final exam. If you have not been attending the midweek event, you might want to start this fall. You will come away with a basic understanding of each book of the New Testament.

State Camp Meeting Review
Tibitha Church of God was well represented at Camp Christi this year. 17 people from Reedville made the 300 mile journey to spend a few hours on the campground. Some experienced the hazards of traveling on the highways, and we are thankful that they were not injured. Good preaching, good singing and good fellowship made it worth the trip. Thanks to all those who were able to share Tibitha with the rest of the state!

Sight and Sound Trip

Though she has lived away from Reedville, this congregation has still been a part of her life, watching her grow and praying for her through some significant health issues. Be in prayer for her as she adjusts to this new transition in her life. Contact information for Amber:

Pastor Hency Teaching College Course
Pastor Hency has been asked to teach the “Introduction to the New Testament” course at the Shiloh Baptist site of Virginia University of Lynchburg. At the time of this writing there were 21 students enrolled for the class. Be in prayer for him for this wonderful opportunity to open the eyes of adult learners to the pages of the book that has changed history.

Back To School
Our kids and grandkids are on their way back to school. Let us encourage them to be their best in their studies. Tibitha has been blessed with some great children and youth. Let’s keep them in our prayers as they begin this new school year. Remind them that right now they all have straight A’s!

No Evening Service, September 5
Due to the Labor Day holiday, there will be no Sunday evening service at Tibitha on September 5. Since the prayer cards will not be prayed for, as you remember some of the requests, pause and lift them to the Lord.

Two Cups of Joy
The “Two Cups of Joy” ministry to the Church of God in Virginia will be one year old in January, though some of us have been involved since October. This is intended to be an ongoing ministry. Thank you for your giving of the $10.00 a month to support this ministry. Tibitha is one of the key supporters of this, as well as other ministries in the state.
Remember: the last Sunday of the month is when we have been asked to bring in the $10.00.

Nominating Committee To Meet
Thomas Jett, Lisa Madison, and Marney Saunders, along with Pastor Hency, will serve as this year’s Nominating Committee. In one of the recent sermons from Jeremiah, Pastor Hency reminded us that everything rises and falls on leadership. The Nominating Committee is keeping that in mind as they deliberate. Each member has been given a guideline that outlines some Biblical criteria and standards for leadership in the church. The committee will use those criteria to seek out those who are spiritually qualified to serve and minister in the church. If you are asked to serve, please know that you are being asked because the committee has used the criteria and prayed about you. It is important that spiritually mature and committed individuals serve on our boards and committees. Pray for the committee as they seek wisdom in this selection process. Support them by saying ‘yes’ and then voting for and encouraging those who are ratified by the congregation in the annual business meeting.

Annual Business Meeting
Tibitha’s annual business meeting will be Sunday, October 17, immediately following the morning worship. Ratification of boards and committees as well as the 2010-2011 budget will be on the agenda. Board and committee chairpersons are asked to prepare a brief report to be included in the handout for the meeting. Please give your report to Pastor Hency by Sunday, October 10.

Sermon Series From Jeremiah
Pastor Hency continues to persevere through Jeremiah in his preaching series. The sermons in September will come out of chapters 34-46. Sunday, September 5, the sermon is entitled “Keeping Promises” (Jer.34-35). On September 12, the sermon is “A Story From the Pit” (Jer. 38). Sept. 19: “Love God and Do As You Please” (Jer. 39-40). September 26 is still in the “sermon mill”.
